What a surprise... Possibly. However, avid readers of the forum will be able to work out (or make an educated guess at) locations that 'don't fit into the norm'. [1]
G'wan, then TOK: 'fess up - did you interpolate from clues or did you visit likely locations?
Having visited the platform level of every single station on the Underground in 4 years of travel (with an eye for track level features), I am quite good at guessing locations that include any type of track level feature (signals, points, cables, bolts, sleepers, rails, cable runs, and so on).
When I saw the photo I knew that the FRL protected a through line that could be accessed from the opposite line; this brought to mind a site with a reversing siding or facing crossover. My first guess of Ealing Common was based on the fact that a train coming out of the depot into the westbound platform would need to protect against a T/Op who changed ends in the platform and tried to run east along the westbound. When this was poo-pooed, with awkward42 suggesting that the site was closer to Stanmore, I then thought of Colindale northbound, which has a reversing siding and signalling that allows trains to exit onto the northbound line in a southbound direction. When this was poo-pooed as well I thought of Finchley Central, for the aforementioned reasons; when awkward42 said that it was not on the Northern Line, I immediately thought of Arnos Grove platform 4, which has a facing crossover that allows northbound trains to access platform 4 from the south.
Had the photo not been of Arnos Grove I would have tried other locations such as Ruislip (NOT Ruislip Siding, just Ruislip) or South Harrow.
