I was on a Central Line train heading to work when I noticed a night tube route map for the Central Line on the train I was on. Has this been a feature for long and do the trains on the other night tube lines have their own night tube map?

It's been around for at least three years I think. I've got no idea of the logic behind these or whether they have been rolled out in any numbers and then discontinued. Night Tube CLD's for the Jubilee line were also produced but I don't think they were ever fitted.

Shows the parts running over night. Vic & Jub run in full so map less use.

Correct, there's a handful of these in use on the Central line although they're so rare that there doesn't even seem to be a definitive list. It was part of the publicity for the initial launch and never fully rolled-out (arguably a good thing given the confusion that could arise). With the Night Tube map having now been withdrawn, I wouldn't be surprised to see these disappear too (not that they're obvious anyway, as seen). At least one Jubilee line map made it out into the wild, although I'm not sure if I took a photo (and if I did, I can't find it). None were produced for the later launches. |

I went to Hainault depot about two years ago and the guy who runs the stores had a huge stack of them on the shelves, many batches still wrapped and bundled in the original paper packaging they came in from the factory. I asked about them and he said that they don’t know why they have so many as they aren’t allowed to put them out.
At the time they didn’t have any replacement Car Line Diagrams so aside from the launch I suppose there’s a possibility one or two extras might have been put up to replace damaged normal ones?
