Hi All,
It has been a while since i have noticed any 6 car workings class 165/168s working Aylesbury/AVP via Harrow/Amersham. I have noticed that there are 5 car diagrams during the peaks but not seen any 6 car ones of late (3 sets of 2 cars coupled or 2 sets of 3 car coupled).
Any reason for this?

Aylesbury bound Chiltern trains have in the last few months been routed through Platform 2 instead of Platform 1 at Amersham due to PTI visibility issues caused by step free works. Don’t know whether the two are related.

Interesting point to make
However, my observations stretch back a good 2 years now, so I would be surprised if thats the issue as i thought all platforms north of ricky can take 6 cars

Indeed most MET Main Line platforms can take a six car Chiltern. Last time I recall seeing six car operation over this section was during the February 2019 diversions.
It could simply be that Chiltern is operating a more intensive timetable elsewhere and that may have left the Aylesbury allocation with a maximum five car service.

Chiltern are doing quite a few short forms too for various reasons so that could be a contributing factor.

I thought Rickmansworth was limited to 5 cars? Has this now been eased somehow?

No, Ricky is 5, also amersham platform 2, six car at ricky have to have rear car locked out.
Due to works at Amersham station staff have to provide assisted dispatch to Chilterns departing platform 1, this happens sometimes so I dont think this will be the reason for no 6 cars being seen .
