This film also appears to answer the question of where they were stored, given the the Guard simply chucks it into the platform invert.

It was a clamp which was connected to the rail at one end and a eye bolt on the headstock of the train at the other, used as a lasdt resory to stop a train running away if the handbrakes or parking brakes failed. Their use has now been superseded by Spring Applied Parking Brakes. You can see the rail anchor being removed from a 1973 Stock train at Holborn here. This film also appears to answer the question of where they were stored, given the the Guard simply chucks it into the platform invert. Always placed at the high end of the train, as you wouldn’t want the train to rest on it or become derailed because of it! On the District we had them for Parsons Green 27Rd , High Street Kensington, Whitechapel

Andy Barr told the April LURS meeting that the plan is to remove the main-line connection in 2020 ready for Holborn reconstruction, so he hopes to run Museum 4-car 1938 stock for a week, as was done before (refers back to original point!). Will this make the 1972 stock unit redundant, so future filming at Aldwych will need to use CGI for train movements?

There might be a need for some corrective signalling work then - I went down there a few months ago and the speed control into both stations doesn't work.
As it's only used for non-passenger moves it isn't a major issue today, but that will need resolving if there is any intention of running heritage trips by train.

Just a couple of relays nothing drastic I wonder if the branch is included in there latest project to scrap the original deltas with position detectors

Will the connection be re-instated once the Holborn reconstruction is completed?

Will the connection be re-instated once the Holborn reconstruction is completed? Afraid not! Aldwych branch platform at Holborn becomes a large circulating area linking new escalators, lifts, etc.

Removing the main line connection early means they have discarded earlier plans to use the branch for equipment and material deliveries and spoil removal. The tram subway above the Aldwych branch platform was also to be linked up for these purposes.

The Deltas on the branch will remain, there is one on the main line at Holborn which is being replaced with a timer.

I wonder what will happen to the 1972 stock unit there? Well Aldwych station will not be altered, so it could remain there for filming! However, the branch platform at Holborn will be converted to circulation area, so it will become isolated from maintenance. Also a traction current feed to Aldwych would be expensive to allow movement. It would be difficult/costly to eventually scrap down there. Cinema can create moving trains with CGI, so I think it will be evacuated before works commence. Probably prove to be a useful collection of spares for Bakerloo trains.
