Can anyone here say definitively what happened if Royal Mail was posted in a Staff Letters postbox?
My understanding is that only an employee of The Royal Mail can carry the Monarch's post on the Highway, so if LT posted on GPO mails they could only have done this if there was a postbox on railway property.
The Railway Letter Service allows this to happen to this day, with some heritage railways allowing letters to be posted at their stations either "to be called for at..." or "posted on arrival at.." another of their stations. Of course, there is a small fee for this service.

MY OPINION on this would be...If you leave a letter on your kitchen table asking your partner to post it,it's your own risk until it enters the Royal Mail system,be it pillar-box or post-office counter. Similarly,if you post a general mail letter in a Staff Letters postbox, you are trusting them to convey it to the Royal Mail system...this trust may be misplaced...

Oh completely, which is why I asked if anyone knew what happened - as opposed to what should have happened. I guess there are two options:
•It got put in a postbox near 55 Broadway •It got put in a bin
But which was it?

But it can only become the monarch's post when posted in a pillar box - otherwise no-one would be able to take their own mail - let alone anyone else's - to a pillar box in the first place.

Third possibility: *Either of the above, depending on which particular staff were on mail duty, how busy they were, which side of the bed they got up that morning, etc.

"My understanding is that only an employee of The Royal Mail can carry the Monarch's post on the Highway"
Oh dear.
That means I'm a criminal, and a serial offender, to boot!
I've frequently taken mail that was delivered to me by mistake, or was intended for a previous occupant, either to the correct address or a post box.
Now I shall spend the rest of my days looking over my shoulder and waiting for the black helicopters.
