Concur. Platform 6 looking outbound, perhaps? It's been a while and I can't remember which way the subway faces.

Nope, it's the freight lift shaft and connected staircase in the northbound Met island (platforms 3/4), facing to the south.

Its either 1/2 or 5/6 as there are advertising hoardings at the far side of the pic. !

As you head down the stairs you're facing south, so as JoinTheDots correctly points out the advertising hoardings on the right means this can't be the middle platforms. It has to be platforms 1 and 2.
I believe the long whited out areas on the bottom left and right of the picture are the oyster validators for passengers transferring from Chiltern Railways to LU services.

they are indeed validators... sent one into a beeping frenzy when i touched my oyster on it, on the premise of 'just to see what happens'!
