In my time there used to be, at the lineside, white diamonds on poles that denoted coasting points. You were meant to give full handle until the diamond was reached and then shut off and roll the rest of the way to the next stop. They were on the Central, Northern, and the District on the BR sections of the line. Any still left?

Not on the DR so far as I can recall.
Presumably they were considered superfluous when the D Stock came in with the Coasting and Weak Field Controls?

On a tip off from Solidbond, I had a look at the Wimbledon road today.
I noticed one such sign - it's just beyond Putney tunnel on the 'down' road, though is well graffitied and seems to be in a fairly advanced state of disrepair!

I wondered what that was for, now I know!! How about the handmade signs in the Ealing Common area, most notably on the Eastbound approaching the station - IIRC one has a white dot and the other has a white square, both on black backgrounds.

I've been led to believe they are. That's what I was told when I was being road trained anyway.

I've been led to believe they are. .........Well, WHAT are they then?? Sorry, those black square boards with a white circle on (ancient boards they are too) i've was told were coasting boards. The only thing that confuses me is that some have white squares on in place of the circle. Why?

Those were the experimental train clear (Exclamation) markers, before the days of the countdown markers when leaving stations, they are also located at South Ken on the east, they were put there for visibility tests.
