Today I bring you a three part question. I aim to post the second part around 4-5pm and the third part around 9-10pm.

I know that I am totally wrong but the impression I get is Hammersmith Eastbound, west end of the station, taken from a D Stock on the EB Local with a train for Cockfosters* ex-Heathrow, and in the Westbound Local/District platform is a WB Picc train for Rayners Lane. That would place it during Engineering works when the Piccs were using the District tracks.
*I am sure that I see the first letter as a "C" although it could of course be "HAMMERSMITH"!

Close, but not quite.
It's the west end of Acton Town station, with a 1973TS in the e/b fast platform (there's no other way to get people in that location) and a 1973TS approaching the e/b local platform via the crossover between the e/b fast (ex-Heathrow) and the e/b local (ex-Heathrow). The strong telephoto effect exaggerates the slight curve in the lines at the west end of Acton Town station, making the signal in the photo (WL32) appear to be in the wrong place.
I think the photo was taken from a D stock train in Ealing Common Depot, Acton end, early in the morning whilst waiting for the train in the foreground to clear the e/b local platform. Another identifying feature is the bridge pillar in the foreground - I've seen that pillar countless times when going through Acton on the west.

Spot on TOK now you pointed out Acton Town! I was wondering why the 1973 Tube Stock train was heading for the EB Local platform and suggest it was during the Engineering works (bridges?) that resulted in Picc trains stopping at the District platforms. The rear cab light fooled me into thinking it might have been a Hammersmith reverser.

Sorry all, events have conspired to prevent me meeting the schedule I hoped to. I will post part 2 below, and part 3 tomorrow morning if the correct answer hasn't been posted by then. If it has I will post part 3 with the answer. Part 2

Acton Town with 1973 Stock on the Fast EB line? Taken from a D Stock train on the bank?

Yup. I said earlier that the pic was taken from a D stock on the Acton end of ECDPT, but now I can categorically state that the photo is of the west end of Acton Town station, with a 1973TS in the e/b fast platform and another 1973TS approaching the e/b fast platform being held at the inner home (WL89?), with the photo taken from a D stock train on the e/b Ealing line.
Now that we know we aren't in the depot, I think it's a late-night shot.

Judging by the amount of people on the platform, I don't think it is late night, probably in December or before the clocks went forward...

Maybe it was New year's Eve? Doubtless taken by a District T/Op bored out of his mind waiting for the Picc to FINALLY get out of the way so he can get into Acton Town.

The train in the EB Fast I suppose was for ARNOS GROVE? Does anyone else see two words in the box?

The train in the EB Fast I suppose was for ARNOS GROVE? Does anyone else see two words in the box? It's got HEATHROW T1,2,3 on the front, and on that basis I reckon it's actually in the WB fast platform, rather than the EB fast.

Answer:As you have all worked out, this is looking at the west end of Acton Town station from a train. The photographer is Aspect, who didn't say where his train was when he took the photo. The picture that was supposed to be part 3 is below:

Must say i absolutely love the fact, that these questions are so easy for TOK, that you lot then start making up your own questions surrounding the pictures ... superb ;D ;D ;D Anyway, TOK was first up with the view that it is Acton Town (west). TOK was also first to correctly state the train in the foreground is on the e/b fast waiting for the signal into the platform (it's a Cockfosters service) TOK was also correct that the shot was taken from a D stock on the e/b Ealing Line (though it could equally have been taken from a 1973 on that line, you've obviously worked out that more District drivers are offering up pictures for the quiz!). Oracle was also there with this. (Apparantly TOK can identify any location from a single piece of ballast ;D ;D ;D ;D ) Artery gets closest with time and date. It is recorded as taken at 18.26 on 5th January ! ADW is correct, there is a Pic sitting in the local, but out of view, whom presumably has the route back to the fast, hence the train in the foreground being held at the inner home because of the safety overlaps) Final points to Seth, for correcting all the other posts in that the train in the background is in the westbound fast bound for Heathrow T1, 2, 3 Well done to all ;D
