Interesting that Bow Road was once a reversing point! photos.ltmcollection.org/images/max/r3/i00008r3.jpgI wondered whether the obfuscated lights etc. meant the train was reversing EB-WB but without a track map am not sure if there is currently a crossover west of the station.

Nearest crossover is at Bromley-By-Bow I must admit I thought Bow Road when I saw it 2 minutes after Chris posted the image - but I wasn't sure because of the canopy edging.

Not anymore. Bow Road (SB 'EP') controlled a crossover until the 1950s/1960s, when it was removed and replaced with a crossover at Bromley-by-Bow (IMR 'FB'). I suspect it was removed due to the ferocious gradient east of the station and the cramped conditions of the signal box.

The canopy edging and the pillars on the right look a lot like Baker Street. I think this photo is taken from the south end of platform 3 (just by the Drivers tea point) at Baker Street, with the C stock sitting alongside platform 2.

BACKTRACK article on the L&BR mentioned that around WW1 time a steam loco may have taken a wrong signal and then had a heck of ajob getting up the gradient at Bow Road back home!
Note the Southend Through Train destination!

You might very well be correct.

Liverpool Street judging by the wide platforms.

Not LiverStreet, that station has straight platforms for the sub-surface lines...

AnswerWell done Whereismyamersham, the C stock train is indeed passing platform 2 at Baker Street. The photographer was JoinTheDots, and his original photo can be seen below: (click for a larger version)
