I work opposite Westbourne Park station and have noticed that the station building has a lot of entrances that are not in use. Also the westbound platform has entrances/exits that are not in use. Also outside the station above the unused entrances are signs saying "This queue is for the underground only". My questions are, why does this station have so many unused entrances/exits, why would there be a need for signs like that outside this station - what was going on in the area of Westbourne Park that put a large number of people through the station.

You'll probably find out in the next few weeks - just wait till the Notting Hill Carnival During the Carnival, Ladbroke Grove station is usually closed, making Westbourne Park the main access and exit point for a large number of the people attending the Carnival

Some bits and pieces of the structure relate to its time as a main line station years ago.

My book "Western Main Lines: Paddington to Princes Risborough", Middleton Press (ISBN 1 901706 81 8) has a picture entitled Plate 11 that shows the platform. Diagram X shows a pair of island platforms on the main and relief lines, with the H&C separated from the down main by the down E&C. The platforms closed in 1992, presumably around the time that the six bidirectional lines were installed between Old Oak East and Paddington.
