I'm not a regular on the Picc, but I don't think (happy to be corrected) that Pneumatic gates made it very far outside Z1.
From the picture, it's a disused exit and from the people seen the otherside of the gates a very busy station as well.
I'm 'thinking' (based on no factual sighting I may add) of Moorgate/ Old Street.

Its not Old Street, I have worked there.
Gates are 50 ft from the Boswicks.
I am thinking Z1 definitely, maybe Western part of Z1 on the Piccadilly.

So the closed gates are a clue then?

On a closer look the gates have 79 & 80 written on them.
That's alot of gates (assuming we're following numerically).
So we're looking at a Z1 station, loads of gates with building work. I'm guessing KX.

I dont think them being closed are a clue, I am just wondering why they are.
I only recognise it as I was there a few weeks ago! That's if i'm right......!

Because of the refurb in progress state of the station, and all gates set to way out, I think it might be Oxford Circus, Argyle St exit.

I agree Oxford Circus, the Boswicks lead in to the bullring. During peak hours this area is closed off to assist in the one-way operation of the station.

I was there today but I'm not sure that the staff operated gate was there...
I think it is Oxford Circus too though.

Almost certainly the station I have used more than any other, and I don't think so. I'm with the Z1 theory, although the barriers do go quite a way out West on The Picc. A week too early for me, as I'm not down until Friday!!

Answer:
Well done to lloyd and whereismyamersham, this is Oxford Circus in the rush hour. I don't know preceisely where in the station this is, as I've never yet managed to get my bearings on the few times I've surfaced here!

There is a set of two escalators leading up from (I believe) the Central platforms, the ticket gates in question are immediately opposite. It does get confusing as the mid circulating area which are the set of three escalators (coming up from the Bakerloo and Victoria lines) lead up, and you would never see these gates unless you spin 180 degrees. Hmm hard to explain, I'll find a map
