I accept that this is not LU but might still be of interest.
A short film of British Rail Class 309 trains, mostly at London's Liverpool Street station but also in Ilford and Thorpe-Le-Soken.
The 'most recent' footage from 1986, the rest is older - 1982 and possibly even the late 1970s! (just before the buffet cars were withdrawn) and I was still a schoolboy! This includes what was probably my first railway filming with a super 8 film camera.
Footage comprises grainy silent super 8 ciné film and still image photographs.
In December I will make a similar film for Class 306 trains.

These were brand new when I started commuting to grammar school by train and they seemed so exotic compared with the workaday 306s that I travelled on. Well before your pictures of course with the 10 coach formations dividing for Clacton and Walton. I never knew what distinguished the griddle cars from buffets, all I ever got to buy was the occasional beer between Shenfield and LST after they were down graded.
Still my favourite EMUs though.

I never knew what distinguished the griddle cars from buffets, . Griddle cars had a hot plate (griddle) for providing hot food, but not a full at-seat service like a restaurant car. (Nowadays the same service could be provided by a microwave oven, but they were still very new - and expensive - in 1962). One unit had its griddle car replaced with a surplus buffet car from a class 123 diesel unit.

The 309s started to be removed from service on the Great Eastern in the summer of 1993 as a result of the cascade of Class 321s from WCML and West Anglia outer suburban services to the Great Eastern. At the same time the last of Clactons 312/1s were transferred to the LTS to replace their 305s and 308s. A handful of 309s continued on a few peak Clacton - Liverpool Street workings until January 1994. They were fine units, probably a bit too good for the services they ran.
10 units escaped the scrapyard and were allocated to Longsight Depot for Manchester - Crewe - Stoke services, their numbers gradually diminished until final withdrawal in 2000.
This has reminded me of that stock cascades back in NSE days were often lengthy and complex affairs.

As it happens, these were favourite emu's too!
I often saw them at Stratford when on my way to school. I noted the destination plates on their sides - which few other trains had. Far better design than the trains which serve their routes nowadays.

A couple of three car units still exist - one set being on the Lavender Line at Isfield. This was one of the sets that was at the Coventry Electric Museum before it closed.
I have pretty much just about completed a cast resin and etched nickel-silver kit/model in 0gauge of a two car 309/1 sets which can be found on RM Web as I seem to have forgotten how to attach images to posts at present!

Thank you - Now that Photobucket has effectively stopped free hosting, that makes inserting images into posts rather more problematical.

Thanks Simon Try this one: It isn't very big perhaps but the idea is there. There you go Arun, I've embedded it for you. If you want to do it for yourself just add the image tags as I've done. Have a look at the code in the BBCode Editor to see what I did.

Thank you Whistlekiller2000, This one comes from a free account at Flickr. I only opened the Flickr account today so I don't know whether the pics can be enlarged somewhat. However this thumbnail hopefully gets over the general appearance of the model.
