Few q's about these trains ahead of their withdrawal:
1. How has the exterior state on these trains become so bad? I am talking about the white marks which seem to cover some carriages extensively? How does that happen
2. GN took over the running of these trains in 2014, why were they the only ones not to receive the new livery? Other operators would surely change the livery if they were using trains for over 4 years.
3. Are any timetable changes planned once the 717s come into service?

Are any timetable changes planned once the 717s come into service? 1) Basically we ran out of viynals and it cost around £10,000 per coach (last time I checked a few years ago) to buy new ones. Graffiti has been an issue with vandals now attacking trains in service with recent BML attack while a train was held at a red signal. 2) GTR is not a franchise like any other. All spending has to be approved by the DfT as this would be their money being spent. They dodmt want it millions spent for a few years benefit. 3) There will be changes in the future once the 717 fleet is fully in as remaining g 313 limit capacity due to speed/path issues. Also the extra platform at Stevenage is required for the franchise to deliver its planned improvements. Currently this has no start date.

they are getting very badly hit at the moment. Real shame to see the old work-horses in this state.

However my actual example was in the Croydon area and an example of just how brazen the graffiti attacks are getting. This was on a live running section of the railway that the 700 was stopped and hit.

I didn't - but as I don't think they are allowed through the Thameslink core, I guess these must be the Coastway units, not the GN ones which I thought were the ones under discussion. But where are they going?

But where are they going? 313s are permitted through the Thameslink Core. After all NR yellow 313 did all the ATO test work before the 700s we’re allowed out. Southern units visit the lathe at Selhurst and this time of the year there pretty at least one there all leafall. There part exchange where some of the Southern have had pans and transformers removed to keep the GN zones going as part are hard to come by. And there was part of a GN 313 at Selhurst for a while after the tree strike.
