I know that this forum doesn't really do trams, however this is the only forum I'm in regarding transport and I don't personally feel a justification to make a new account on another forum just to post this 
I've just received an e-mail from someone called "Mouncey Simon" regarding Tramlink. They're turning off all the ticket machines across the Tramlink network on 16 July 2018.

I've just received an e-mail from someone called "Mouncey Simon" regarding Tramlink. They're turning off all the ticket machines across the Tramlink network on 16 July 2018.

Following asking people for their views our 18 year-old ticket machines across the Tram network will be switched off from 16 July 2018. Any customers who currently buy paper tickets bought from a ticket machine will need to use alternative payment methods such as contactless or Oyster.
Customers are buying fewer than 66 paper tickets a day across the entire Tram network and the number is falling, with most already choosing cheaper travel via contactless or Oyster. A paper ticket bought from a ticket machine costs £2.60 whereas the equivalent pay as you go single fare with contactless or Oyster is just £1.50. Our Hopper fare means that pay as you go customers can also make unlimited bus and Tram journeys within one hour of touching in for £1.50.
We will be running a comprehensive information campaign over the coming weeks to ensure customers are aware of the change and fully informed about alternative ways to pay for Tram fares.
