It looks like the passenger doors are slightly offset - instead of fully opposite each other.

It looks like the passenger doors are slightly offset - instead of fully opposite each other. I can see why you say that, but can't think of any practical reason for it, so I believe it is just an illusion of the camera.

There was an incident on the Metro some years ago where an elderly passenger charged onto a train on an electric scooter, and burst through the opposite pair of doors.
Amazingly, the press coverage concentrated on the train, as if there was somehow a fault with the doors!
I imagine that the outcry would have been different had the perpetrator been a 'youth, 17'.
Staggering the doors might eliminate possible damage to the carriage due to such behaviour. Seated passengers' legs may not be so lucky.
