Now that the night tube has been running for almost 2 years, do we know what and when the next addition to the map will be?
By addition, i mean either a new line added or an extension to another branch of one of the existing lines on the map e.g. Central or Piccadilly.

The Bank branch of the Northern line will gain a night service, but not until the capacity upgrade at Bank is (substantially) complete. If TfL's currently published timeline holds this is likely to be between late 2020 and 2022 (the line closure required to connect up the old and new tunnels is currently programmed for April-August 2020). 2020 is also the forecasted opening date of the Battersea extension, but I don't recall what the status of a night service on that is. The possibility of a night service on the DLR is going to form part of the next operating contract which starts in 2021, and Londonist predicted in January this year that this would be the next to appear on the map. If all goes to plan with Crossrail though, a service between Paddington and Abbey Wood at least could take the honour. A night service on the SSR is unlikely before the completion of the signalling upgrade, and similarly I predict the Bakerloo line will not feature on the night tube map before its own upgrade is complete, and even then it might not make it north of Queen's Park. The Waterloo and City line is unlikely to ever see a 24-hour service. Extending the Central line beyond Loughton is unlikely without a financial contribution from Essex county or district councils, and in the present financial climate that seems unlikely to be a short term thing. I'll leave discussion of the West Ruislip branch to someone who actually knows something. East London Line services to New Cross at night are unlikely unless mainline trains start running a night service to interchange with. Other extensions to the Overground will require coordination with Network Rail and will at least partially be constrained by current maintenance plans and contracts - and with all the Thameslink headaches NR currently has, I wouldn't hold your breath for this to be near the top of their priority list any time soon.

The catchment area for stations east of Woodford is already quite small and I believe original proposals were for it to stop there. Don't quite see the advantage of it serving Buckhurst Hill or Loughton. Frankly the frequency of the Central is what shocks me. 20 minute wait if you've just missed your train and were hoping to travel beyond the Wanstead area. Taxi please! Oh my bad, "Uber". The tph should be equal to that of the Northern at the least.

I think it was said the met will go between Aldgate and Harrow when night services on the line eventually start running but I don't see the logic in this. There's essentially only 5 stops where people would be likely to live. Even if intermediate stations would be relatively quiet, Uxbridge would be a good town centre to gain a night tube service but it might perhaps be too far out. I could see the central line being extended to at least Northolt in the west but I don't know what passenger numbers would be like. As for the district line, I would like to see Wimbledon/richmomd-Barking and in the distant future all the way to Upminster. Saying that, I'd like to see all lines operate fully eventually except for the Chigwell section, the Waterloo and city line, far reaches of the met, the Watford DC line, upminster to Romford, mill hill east and the circle line (other SSR can operate), I'd like to see crossrail operate Paddington- abbey wood but if National rail ever became 24hours, I'd like to see that extended at least up to Gidea Park and out west to West Drayton.

re the northern line bank brannch:
How will service frequencies be affected? Will this mean reducing the charing cross service by half in order to send the other half via bank?

Northolt would be the logical extremity of any night tube service in my opinion, as that's also the end of the night bus network for the West Ruislip branch, unless of course any extensions to night bus services were proposed at the same time. Barking would be the logical extremity of the District line in the east for night tube, as it's also the extremity of the night bus network, unless of course any expansion or alteration to the night bus network occurred meaning that night buses were to reach stations between Barking and Upminster. The potential sticking point for a night tube service on the District and Hammersmith & City lines is between West Ham and Upminster is proximity to Network Rail if/when Network Rail need to work.

I suspect they will segregate the branches. Edgware and Barnet branches will be more frequent. It’s possible they could just go for a 10-minute service on both northern branches, simply swapping over at Camden alternately. This would also work neatly at Kennington as the CX service could go to Battersea and the City service to Morden. There could be a desire to segregate so that every trip passes a depot however.

It is worth adding that Nigel Holness of LU is due to give the Customer Services & Ops Performance Cttee a verbal update on Night Tube performance after next week's meeting. A planned update on the effect of the Night Tube on Night Buses has been postponed to November as the planned update on "Bus Strategy" would cover the night bus effects. I find it somewhat telling that TfL are not providing a written update - presumably because of the known performance and staffing issues. I agree with Chris M's overview of how night services may develop over time. My sense of things is that while the service is popular at certain times at others it is as dead as anything and if LU could get out of operating all night services they would. It must be a net financial drain for TfL but they can't get out of it because of Mayoral commitments in the past and now.

If LU are having problems with the night tube, then why do they insist on running a regular service on some parts of the night tube?
For example:
Jubilee Line: Why not reverse every other train at wembley park or wilesden green? Does every train really need to go to stanmore?
Piccadilly line: Why not run every other train arnos grove to northfields?

I doubt if any extension to Epping on the Central Line is likely. ECC subsidise it? Never. And LU have told Epping Forest DC that in no uncertain terms. There is however a reasonable amount of traffic to Loughton, which has become the railhead (places beyond generally served by Sadler's cabs) for all sorts of places in Essex, as it was 1856 to 1865! I heard a chap one night demanding to go to Roxwell, and not even flinching at the estimate. But he was fairly well oiled. As a result of NT, I think Loughton now has the highest number of passenger trains calling per week of any station in Essex.
