Is the London Transport Museum actually a train operator, at least for London Underground purposes, or are all their charters (over LU metals at least) operated by someone else (perhaps LUL themselves), besides the fact that they own the vehicles? Does it even make sense to talk about train operators on London Underground? I know that they're not a train operator for Network Rail purposes, as eg their last charter used GB Railfreight on at least those bits. Just asking out of curiosity. Thanks!

All LUL heritage runs are exactly that: LUL. Staffed by LUL train operators (generally test crew), and most stewards are also on the payroll, although the LTM does provide a certain number of non-safety critical volunteers.
Most preserved rolling stock in the LTM is also retained by LUL. Of course, the LTM itself is a wholly owned subsidiary of TfL.

Does it even make sense to talk about train operators on London Underground? Be careful with your wording, on LU what we probably all think of as a driver is a "Train Operator" and I think what you are referring to above is a Train Operating Company.
