The new map has started to appear on some platforms:

Subtle change to Heathrow Terminals 2&3.
No longer ties in with train and platform destination displays which still include Terminal 1 (which closed many moons ago).
Could confuse people.

Unless they were planning on going to Terminal 1, which would hopefully be unlikely, I think they'll be alright Crusty!

It does create uncertainty amongst visitors on the platforms. (I do know having recently worked at the station in a hi vi.)

I wonder how much it would cost to get a blue sticker and cover the 1...

Art on the Underground have announced that the new map will be distributed next week, and that this week will be the last opportunity to get the designs of Marc Camille Chaimowicz and Marianna Simmnet. The new designs will be by Geta Bratescu and Marie Jacotey.
I wonder how long the old ones will be around the network. Iirc I was still getting December 2016 maps from North Greenwich until about February.

If anyone wanted to get hold of the old maps and didn't manage it, please PM me and I can send you one (selected other designs also available).

Why aren't the stations linked on the map? Also why has Terminal 4 been moved so far down and why is the Terminal 5 brand now dropping? Doesn't seem necessary to me.

Why aren't the stations linked on the map? Possibly because they are not linked in real life, and to emphasise that the dagger only applies to the HEx station? Also why has Terminal 4 been moved so far down To make space for the HEx line threading the gap? It also helps emphasise that passengers for T2/3 really, really, should not take a T4 train! and why is the Terminal 5 branch now dropping? Don't know, but maybe to make more space away from T2/3? Or it may be to make it easier to draw in the connection to T5 when services start running there.

I'm intrigued to see that there's no note regarding Heathrow fares. Whilst the services are in zone 6 for capping/Travelcard purposes they are not for single fares, with a greater fare (albeit still cheaper than currently) applying.
Maybe I'm over thinking it, but I can see single trip travellers getting caught out by this. Whilst anomalies do apply to various NR fares on Oyster, this is (I thibk) the first time such a discrepancy has appeared on a TfL map and the station in question hasn't been part of a specific fare zone (in before anyone says Watford Junction/Shenfield/the Trams.

Have to agree that they have got this wrong. After all the map already shows Special Fares Apply at Shenfield. It's very clearly marked. So why not make it clear at Heathrow? The answer is obvious, TfL will make money out of less frequent travellers arriving at the airport. Welcome to London and all that...

No you're not overthinking it. I was looking at this and the new line diagrams yesterday and it really stuck out to me. I agree with you and Brooklynbound that TfL haven't got this right - it's inaccurate (being kind) for PAYG / single fare / single trip users. Being unkind it's borderful deceitful given how high the single fare into Heathrow will be. Clearly it does work for capping and Travelcard purposes but you have to wonder if 50% "correct" is acceptable. I suspect we may see a reaction from London Travelwatch and Assembly Members in due course. One other technical question is what positive PAYG balance you need on a card to enter at Heathrow (TfL Rail) stations. Normally it is the minimum fare that applies from that stn - so £1.50 in outer zone stns off peak and £2.40 in Zone 1. If the same principle applies then it's going to be something like £6 off peak (fare to Hayes & Harlington) which is pretty steep.

Why aren't the stations linked on the map? Presumably following the precedent of the Hammersmiths.

Between both Crossrail and LU stations at Heathrow is probably a longer walk than between the Hammersmiths - I did them the other day. From T(1)23 to Heathrow Central the journey includes two long travelators and then some more walking. At T4 you have to go up a level, walk the entire length of arrivals, and then back down a level.

Doesn't seem necessary to me. A comment you could apply to a lot of changes the map has seen since ~1990.

I wonder how long the old ones will be around the network. Iirc I was still getting December 2016 maps from North Greenwich until about February. There is still some 92 stock with 2012 Olympic maps (with the Pink labels). Also, some Overground Class 378s have 2015 era tube maps

If we are also talking about other differences since the last tube map then there are two extra accessible stations - Bromley By Bow and Buckhurst Hill.

The CLD's, external destination indicators, DMI's and on train announcements still feature terminal 1. CLD's are only wholly updated when major works necessitate it such as long station closures or blockades as seen at Walthamstow hence why most lines use CLD's that are at least a couple of years old with stickers marking any changes in the interim. The 2012 olympics brought dedicated CLD's for most lines but since then, it's been relatively quite with regards to the Piccadilly's stations so not much of an incentive to change them till the start of TFL Rail to Heathrow.

Anyway, seen the new map on a 345 yesterday.

We really need a new way to describe interchanges that require leaving one station entirely, like Archway to Upper Holloway. Even a dotted line between them would be good.

In reality, any Out-of-Station Interchange * could be shown, but this will get very busy... For those not familiar: TFL OSI Web Page<<rincew1nd: *Out of station Interchange - OSI>>

Post by norbitonflyer on May 17, 2018 17:04:19 GMT
And it could be very misleading - some OSIs are quite convenient, others are a very long trek. Where do you draw the line? ( So to speak)

Surely you draw the line if it's not charged as an OSI?
