I see a new generation of priority seating signs making their way onto tube trains, a big circular sign "Priority seating. Please consider other passengers when using this seat. #TravelKind".
They are a good idea, except that when somebody sits in the seat, they are obstructed from view.
Its a pity they can't be in another location that isn't obstructed when somebody sits down on the seat, such as on the floor in front of the seat, for example...

I saw that yesterday, only some seats have these notices.
From what I recall they were only near the single leaf doors at the end of the tube cars with just two signs per car, one at each end and one on each side (front right, back left) - and none at the cab end of DM's. Maybe this will change in the next few days.
I have a few photos but as yet have barely had the time to download them off my camera.

They might be more effective on the floor, in front of the seat. Whenever a stubborn or unaware passenger sits in a seat, and 'doesn't notice' a pregnant, disabled or elderly passenger, their back is obstructing the sign. On the floor, it might be a bit more obvious/visible when the seat is occupied.
They are most visible when the seat is unoccupied, in which case the seat would already be available for somebody who needs it.

More photos... inside the train when the sliding passenger doors are open and closed plus outside the train but only when the doors are closed - the sign can't be seen when the doors are open! Simon

It's to do with TfL's Priority Seating Week 23 - 28 April. Whether the signs stay there after I don't know. There will also be posters about.

I would hope that their signage includes that children (of all ages) should not occupy seats to the exclusion of adults. Even better it could refer to the fact that the children will be travelling for free and refer to 'fare paying adults'. Such etiquette was drummed in to me when I was a child - and I was reminded that I was only paying child fares whilst adults were paying full fares. Simon

Simon Ironic though that the priority seating includes for the elderly and disabled, those who get free travel!

Don't like the hashtag bit. Will become dated and obsolete very quickly I don't like the overuse of hashtags. It's one of my pet peeves, and it's not only T fL doing it...I've seen countless other ads with much much worse hashtags.

I used to resent being told to stand so adults could sit down. But the grown-ups pointed out that they only paid half-fare for me. THAT was another resentment!

I used to resent being told to stand so adults could sit down. I make an exception for small children who can't reach the straphangers, but except them not to occupy a whole seat each if they are that small (e.g three on a double seat). When they were small I would always insist mine sat on my lap if other passengers were standing.

Following a recent serious incident with Facebook, I have been questioning the reason for hashtags when it seems social media is at risk of going out of being shunned.

Facebook has been declining for a number of years now - and has never been "big" on hashtags either. They were a much, much later addition. Twitter continues to grow (having got past a number of its issues), as do a number of the smaller platforms. Hashtags are very much here to stay, and are an excellent way to co-ordinate and curate content. But we're going off-topic now for the specific subject, which is about the new Priority Seat stickers and Priority Seating Week.

I haven't heard any announcements this week, regarding priority seating, as was advertised would happen by TfL. I wonder if these signs are here to stay?

I half-heard an announcement at Stratford on Monday but it was drowned out by a screaming baby.

The biggest issue for me is, I keep attempting to understand which seat this massive circular is aimed at. Is it one or two seats? And it absolves the other 16 passengers that have fortunately found themselves in other seats. Surely the guidance should be....give up your seat if there is someone one can see that needs it more than you.
In practice I find that someone offers a seat, then someone else insists that they should offer their seat too. Result: pregnant lady in a seat and an empty seat near her where the original "giver uper" won't sit down and the other standees won't take it off him/her.....only in London.

I saw a tweet the other day where someone had observed a pregnant woman, an old man and someone on crutches all standing by an empty seat as none of them could agree who needed it most.

In circumstances like this, surely 2 others should give up their seats without the need of a sticker to prompt it. And as a side issue, do I, as a relatively healthy 64 year old, give up my seat, or should, as has happened in the past, expect younger people to give up their seat for me?

If there is an empty seat why should you have to give up yours?
Generally speaking, you should give up your seat to someone who needs it more than you do. This will obviously depend on your condition at the time and who else is travelling.

If there is an empty seat why should you have to give up yours? . Some seats are easier to get into and out of than others - they are usually* the ones that are identified as Priority seats. Thus, it makes sense that the person sitting in the priority seat should be prepared to be give theirs up (unless their need is greater), whether or not there are other seats available. (*although on some lines it is difficult to see why they have been chosen)

Both those links just make my browser crash. What point is trying to be made? One is the search results for "Travelkind" which are little to do with this thread, the other is the search results for "#travelkind" which are the same topic as this thread.

The large additions work well on the Class 378s. Fills the window above the priority seat.
