Following the success of the incredible, ‘Special, Like A Saturday Night’ quiz, DavidH & CSLR have been planning something even more spectacular for Christmas - with a lot of help from Admins and other forum members. After sifting through years and years of unpublished photographic material, they have come up with a very unusual collection of Underground photographs which they guarantee that none of you will ever have seen before. From the 1 December through to Christmas Eve, they will open one picture a day on the DD 'Advent Calendar'. Members will then have 24 hours to discuss the image and to guess what or where it is. The following day, a new picture will be opened together with an answer/comments from the photographer relating to the previous day’s posting. To ensure that there is real variety and a good mixture of Underground subjects, several forum members have been invited to contribute one or two of their own pictures - but you will not be told who each photographer is until after the answer is revealed so that you only have photographic clues to help you. If you have not yet been invited to join in and think that you have a photograph that might defeat our members, please send a PM to DavidH or CSLR asap. Meanwhile, the countdown has started. Standby for The Great Big Christmas Photo Quiz 2006, starting Friday 1 December.

10 days to go [/center] ...and we are already changing the plans. Because the first question is made up of two pictures, the first of these will be posted at 8am on Friday 1 December and the second at 8pm - giving an extra 12 hours to solve the first puzzle. Thereafter all pictures will be changed at 8pm each day. So the first question is: Where is this? In ten days we will show you the pictures and let you work it out

Looking forward to this! Will there be plenty of the Northern, the greatest line? No clues, other than any that might be given with the photos

36 hours to go! Here is the plan and the timetable. Some questions will be easy, while others will appear incredibly difficult. All are solvable if you look for the clues. Photos (and sections of photos) have been deliberately chosen to make sure that you have just enough information. This is a battle of wits between those posing the questions and the forum members acting in unison. We hope that you will work together as a team, helping each other, adding ideas and trying to solve the problems. Along the way, we may throw in the occasional cryptic clue or red herring to help or hinder you, so make sure that you read exactly what we say and check every inch of the photos. Be warned: from the time the picture/question is posted, the general rule will be no comments or replies from us until the answer is put up. Thereafter we will be happy to respond to any questions about the subject or the photograph. Have fun. Questions will be found under Playtime and Fun > The Great Christmas Quiz > The Daily Questions Planned timetable of postings. Some small variations may occur. Question 1: 1 December - 8am (Photo A will be posted), 1 December - 8pm (Photo B will be posted), 2 December - 8pm (Answer will be posted) Question 2: 2 December - 8pm (Photo will be posted), 3 December 8pm (Answer will be posted) Question 3: 3 December - 8pm (Photo will be posted), 4 December - 8pm (Answer will be posted) The quiz will then follow the same daily sequence until:- Question 23: 23 December - 8pm (Photo will be posted), Christmas Eve - 8pm (Answer will be posted) Question 24: Christmas Eve - 8pm (Photo will be posted), Boxing Day - 8pm (Answer will be posted) For those of you who may have trouble finding the computer over the holiday period, question 24 will be a really easy one with a warm comfortable feel about it; and maybe even some Christmas decorations throw in for good measure!

Also, to anybody who's contributing photographs taken with digital cameras, it might be wise to strip the EXIF data from your photographs (if you know how), especially if you're one to put comments, names and other additional information in the photograph's metadata. (I find the easiest way to do this is by using the 'Save for Web' feature in Photoshop, Elements, or similar options in other photo editing software.)
