On an eastbound Met in the front car yesterday approaching Euston Square, had the usual announcement about the front doors not opening, but when it stopped, the doors did open (they were not beyond the platform barrier).
Can anyone explain this?

Not sure about Euston Square specifically but stations such as: Hornchurch EB Dagenham East EB Cannon Street both Sloane Square EB West Brompton WB Putney Bridge WB
are finally having the legacy platform mounted OPO equipment (for A C D Stock) removed. The works should’ve been finished around October 2017 but has been extended. The on-train announcements will be altered only once all designated locations have been completed

Not sure weather the defunct OPO (One Person Operation) monitor is still there but I do know that the stop marker is just above where it stands/stood. If it's been removed then I'd wager that theirs enough clearance to open the front set of doors and its just the announcements that need to be altered. The second scenario is that the driver stopped on the 1st or 2nd chevron of the stopping board and the train system didn't activate SDO (Selective Door Operation) at the front but may have cut out an additional pair of doors at the back.

The S stock doesn't work like that; if you overrun the stopping mark and miss the CSDE zone it's a full override which cuts out all doors in the front and rear car. Euston Square eastbound is a very tight berth on S8s with the front of the train right up against the starter. There's very little margin for error. There's a lot of station works there at the moment so I expect the redundant platform-mounted OPO equipment has been removed, allowing all doors to open as stated by Dstock7080.

MoreToJack , Thanks for correcting me on that and apologies for I read the post by orienteer wrong , I was trying to describe the WB scenario where there was an S8 that had an SDO glitch incident in 2013 I think.

The on-train announcements will be altered only once all designated locations have been completed The 'doors not opening' announcements being removed in the next update of the announcements are; Hornchurch EB Dagenham East EB Cannon Street both Sloane Square EB West Brompton WB Putney Bridge WB Euston Square EB (S8 trains. S7s stop at a different position and never had a door cut-out there) Also Paddington 1 Inner Rail/WB gets the announcements changed to match the 1 front 2 rear cut out change done there back in 2016. The idea was to do the train update roughly at the same time as the platform changes so as to minimise the number of software updates, so some might have happened early/late depending which way you look at it. The train software rollout will be from about May. The only one of these platforms not done yet is West Brompton. The Cannon Street 'all doors enabled' came into use on Friday. There's a few more to come, mostly only when ATC is commissioned.
