Hypothetical question but it is a situation that could potentially arise.
What would happen if a Night Tube train accepted an incorrect signal onto a branch that wasn’t operating I.e. a Piccadilly Line towards Ealing Common, and it wasn’t possible to set back past the signal? Presumably the passengers couldn’t be detrained at Ealing Common because it would be closed.

As long as it don’t go too past the signal it would just be a wrong direction move especially at Acton
Traction is still off though on non night tube areas even on the next section but we are prohibited from working in or around a night tube section.
We can not work basically west of Earls Court, including west of Acton Town towards Ealing Broadway
On the central where modern ( well more then the Picc) signalling works I presume they put an inhibit on the signalling to stop trains routing to non night tube areas.

Are the night tube T/ops route trained on the branches that don't operate a night service? If not, would a pilot be available?

On our line, the Night Tube drivers have at least one Rayners Lane and one Uxbridge rostered over a 6 month period. Problem if you're on annual leave when you are supposed to go and some of the drivers request a pilot that normally turns out to be one of the duty managers.

I seem to recall an incident on the Northern line, I think it was a person under a train and I have no idea how far back this is now, where they ended up running trains via the Bank branch (not in passenger service between Camden or Euston and Kennington) to try and keep trains and drivers to timetable as best they could whilst the incident was ongoing? Hopefully someone else can validate and it wasn't just a weird dream..!

Hopefully someone else can validate and it wasn't just a weird dream..! Yes it did happen. Obviously they were lucky no work was going on at the time, otherwise it wouldn’t have been an option. Regarding Night Tube drivers, the duties book on from before the Night Tube starts and after it finishes, and as such still drive non Night Tube services - so on something like the Northern it can include covering the Bank branch.
