This is just a heads up as the dates aren't certain yet but Crossrail's internal comms is reporting that a final series of station open days is planned for this Spring and Summer before the line opens to passengers.
The text says "From January through to June 2018 we are planning a final set of station open events, one at each station from Paddington through to Woolwich consisting of a PPE free, self guided walk through the passenger areas of each station".
Now at the moment the stations are a long way from PPE free (PPE means Personal Protective Equipment i.e. orange hiviz, hard hats and boots) so I'd guess these open days are a couple of months away at least.
Will post dates if I see them.

I hope it does not clash with other railway events, such as the Steam On The District.

No stations are due to be finished and operational with functioning escalators and lifts and clear platform areas within 2 months that I am aware of. None of the surface buildings are finished except Canary Wharf and Abbey Wood (and that's not ready for Crossrail yet). I'd not be shocked to see the open days happen in August during the school hols as that would allow the maximum number of people to take a look in their leisure time.

Though of course those of us without children, who are guilted by colleagues into not booking school holidays as leave (on the grounds that it prevents them booking them) won't be able to visit. Meh.

August? Beach time! I suppose I'll cope.

If the open days are going to be that late in the year, we may as well wait for the stations to open properly!

Will this be exclusive for TfL/Crossrail workers and their friends & family?
Also, what is Steam on the District? I can't seem to find info about it anywhere on the net.

Also, what is Steam on the District? I can't seem to find info about it anywhere on the net. A hypothetical heritage train event later in the year that hasn't been officially confirmed and announced only in a publication that has a history for jumping the gun with such dates. Some posters still seem to take this as gospel despite the track record... </off topic>

Canary Wharf was last night. Looks very impressive. Shame they've not yet fitted a roundel, mind...

It was interesting but I found the whole station a bit cold and clinical and, seemingly, a bit in the middle of nowhere - a bit like the shops in Nine Elms near Battersea feels at the moment before anyone's actually moved there. Mind you, I don't much like Canary Wharf at the best of times, it's always cold, always windy and feels like an American mall transplanted into London. I went to Canary Wharf too - the only unusual thing about it (apart from how hard it was to find) was the bright neon escalators. Huge station though.

Does anyone know if children were allowed on the Canary Wharf tour? I'm interested in attending later tours, and not being able to bring the kids would make it difficult. I think I looked at booking Canary Wharf tickets, just to see what it said, but didn't see anything. Thanks.

The conditions with the ticket booking are quoted below. I suspect the above conditions will apply to all of the visits given they're likely to be in sites which are effectively complete and not under construction.

Had another visit to Farringdon station today - probably the last public visit before it opens. The tour included the Western ticket hall by Farringdon station and also a trek down to platform level. In the ticket hall the interior finishes have started to be applied and the escalators are now installed but not in a workable state for public use. The "arty" patterned and the lustred metal panels are also being fitted. I still reckon it's going to be tight given lighting and other things aren't fully working yet - not sure that can be finished and signed over to the operators in 2-3 months. Down at platform level it was rather more complete. This was my first view of the Central London tunnel level and the spaces are big and platforms are very long although we were confined to a short section of them. The light coloured stone panels which line the tunnels help create a "bright space" but I still think the cleaning regime is going to be difficult. Signs, totems and roundels were all in place. Platforms are lettered A and B, not numbered. The line diagrams show the final service pattern as does the signage but I suspect they may be covered over with temporary signage / maps come December 2018. You can see where the time and money has gone in creating such enormous spaces. There was also a track digger chugging along one of the tracks - not sure why but obviously no class 345s whizzing through! EDITPhotos to follow later when I've processed them at bottom of this page on Flickr www.flickr.com/photos/24759744@N02/albums/72157630061932508/page2/.
