bah! I was hoping for some mad scheme of 15-inch gauge lines in tunnels to move the plants around without disturbing the view...

There is a stately home somewhere with something similar What would have been even more intriguing:- conducted tours on the 15" lines to see the roots of the biggest specimen-probably have needed squirrels to T/O, though, in exchange for a very large supply of peanuts. How fascinating - he does seem a bit of an odd one, but you can forgive a lot for "He insisted on a chicken roasting at all hours of the day and the servants brought him his food on heated trucks that ran on rails through the underground tunnels."
