I found this oddity on the Picadilly line platform at Kings Cross. Can anybody solve the riddle of what it is? There is a description of the object on my web page: blog.stodge.org/161

It's an alignment detector. If you follow an imaginary straight line from the lens you'll find a 'cats eye' reflector embedded somewhere in the ceiling or wall of the platform tunnel.
No doubt BAET is typing in their exact function right now, but AFAICT they are used to measure any flexing, sagging or disturbing of the tunnel walls - useful when you have many tons of heavy plant and much digging and bashing going on above (i.e. the CTRL works).
