Nobody seems quite clear what/where HS3 will be, not surprising really as it's a dormant company owned by D fT. Which isn't perhaps unexpected given that HS4, HS5 and HS6 are all similarly dormant. Based upon past performance here in the UK, if any of the HS services comes to pass it will be when the schoolchildren of today are ready for their old age pensions. Simon

Of course, we are all assuming HS = High Speed.
What if it means Hopelessly Satirical, though?

Highly Suspicious? Huge Scam?
But then again, one could equally apply such terms to the 'announcement' every few years that Beeching closures could be reversed.
Is this the third time since 2010 alone? Whats the word for someone who preys on others' sense of nostalgia?
The trouble is its all been discussed to death. The ATOC report in 2009, the tedious and meandering process through which CRL and the Portishead branch are stuck, however many trees the CfBT have cut down writing reports no-one who makes financial decisions will ever read. Its just such a shame, the willingness is there at grassroots level but financial modelling seems to prove whatever decision was made beforehand. Whats needed is the dogmatic decision to pursue it regardless of financial setting. But you could make the same argument about a lot of current UK situations. Hmmmm.

however many trees the CfBT have cut down writing reports no-one who makes financial decisions will ever read. *lightbulb* That explains the recent de-arborisation of every railway embankment in the whole of the UK.

In steam days no tree was allowed to grow on a railway embankment. Following diesel and electrification the cutting back was curtailed to save money until the unforeseen consequence of "leaves on the line"
