The December 2017 timetable changes will bring an uplift in the late evening to London Overground services on the Euston - Watford Junction route. The usually every 20 minutes service used to drop to every 30 minutes in the late evening. The new timetable will bring this to an end, with trains every 20 minutes until close of service. The Bakerloo line services have been adjusted to fit around the enhanced Overground service.

Seems odd that they added an extra column into the end of day bit rather than deleting two columns and extending the range of the "same time past each hour until" block. But hey ho! It's welcome news. Did someone say something about the trains losing a carriage though?

The plan, as I understand it, is that new class 710s (same type as will be on the Goblin and the West Anglia group) will be used on the Watford line, allowing the displaced 378s to be used to boost the frequencies on the East London Line services.
Yes, the 710s only have four cars and the 378s have five, but with a frequency increase from 3tph to 4tph, the number of carriages per hour will actually increase (by one).

On the theme of 20 min headway late evening services that will apparently be the case when the GOBLIN reopens in mid January 2018. Currently services step down to half hourly after about 2200 but will be approximately x20 henceforth. Opentraintimes shows departures varying between every 18-20 mins for some reason.

I agree, pathing issues it will be. The enhancement this December is with the existing 378s. One year from now the Dec '18 change will be new rolling stock - the 710s, at 4tph instead of 3tph. If you want a real pathing issues headache - try Overground 4tph at the same time as Bakerloo run 6tph to H&W and chuck in 3tph to Stonebridge Park to make things even more fun! With a 4min30s headway restriction north of Wembley Central - that's really FUN!!! I think the 710s might be on test on the route from some time after May.

Really? late at night on the GOBLIN when it manages a clear x15 headway virtually all week? Are there really that many freight workings in the late evening period?

I'm guessing plenty of Runs as required paths but not many actual trains.

Freight companies don't like giving up paths cos they may never get them back.

I quick look at RTT (Real Time Trains) on a random day shows around 40 freight trains going through Woodgrange Park in 24 hours which, at a rough estimated it looked like about two thirds of the available paths. I don't know what proportion will continue to cross the Electric Lines on the flat once GOBLIN reopens.
