A question has arisen on the FB District Line group about the semaphore signals at Richmond. As some may know I was a guard on the District from June 1970 to June 1973, and I certainly remember the semaphore starter signals there. But I'm certain they were replaced by colour lights some time in 1972 or 73. Gunnersbury retains semaphores until some time later when the Feltham panel came into being although Richmond retained control of the line to Gunnersbury. I'm reasonably certain the layout was amended in 72 or 73 and the connection from the DR to the SR was decommissioned. I'm certain I've got a signalling notice about it somewhere in my collection.

Slightly OT, but it’s amazing how different Gunnersbury looks in that photo compared to today. No horrid car park and tower block!

I can certainly recall running D Stock to Richmond with semaphores.

I'm still certain the platform starters were replaced with colour lights in 1973.
