I have somewhere a note that a diesel powered engineering department loco was ?considered/?mentioned/? ? built, of a size to work the deep tube lines? Is that a correct memory? was there such a thing?

Didn’t the JLE whilst being built had diesel locos?

Yes there were 12 (or was it 14?) four wheeled diesel locos from Schoma. They were transferred to Transplant when the JLE was completed. About four of them remain in use. They sometimes operate on SSR jobs but I think not on deep Tube jobs. At the time they were built in the early 1990s they met the best extant diesel emissions requirements. Standards have moved on since then though. There was a project to convert the locos to battery electrics but that seems to have halted as discussed in other threads on here.

A Schweerbau RGS rail grinder was captured on video at Kilburn Park , don't know if that is also referring to the locos aswell but they certainly aren't on the juice. Video link to a Youtube video uploaded by Jason Cross. ( Click here.) <<rincew1nd: Link converted to a hyperlink>>

A brief search doesn't reveal anything about the schoma conversion programme being dropped. Any details, or a link to sources/discussion?

Have these ever been up to Uxbridge? I've seen something that looks vaguely similar to the one in that video.

Although similar, the RGS and the Schömas are not the same. However, the former was running on diesel power in the linked video, and is fitted with more modern exhaust scrubbing equipment to (uniquely? Outside of a possession, at least?) allow this.
The remaining diesel Schömas are used occasionally on engineering work, usually for the larger possessions when battery locomotives are at a premium. They are not permitted to operate in deep tube sections, but may run under power in sub-surface tunnels. The same also applies to the TransPlant tamper fleet when operating to and from a worksite. Transit moves through deep tube tunnels must be operated by battery locomotives.
