Was passing through embankment on the Northern line, and ofcourse, this is the only station to retain the classic mind the gap announcment, which got me thinking:
1. When was this announcement phased out completely and what were the last stations to use it?
2. Why was it phased out, could they have not kept it at some stations?

Wasn't the reason for the removal of the original announcements due to the digitalisation of announcements?

Yes, the late great Phil Sayer recorded a suite of digital announcements with various messages, whereas the original system was just the one announcement.

also just realised that the original "stand clear of the doors please" doesnt play after the mind the gap part, instead, staff on the platform just say it themselves?
I Must admit that after hearing the announcement at embankment, it does sound very outdated in such modern environment!
