On arrival at Stratford was faced with EB trains indicated thus: 1. Hainault, 2 minutes 2. Epping, 18 minutes No announcements at Stratford or by driver about disruption. Got off at Leytonstone. No announcements. Large numbers of folk on EB platform. Epping 18 minutes had changed to Hainault 12 Knowing the Central Line of old, I crossed to middle road, where a train was standing labelled on describer Epping Train Ready. Said train moved off 2 min later, leaving huge numbers of Epping passengers on EB platform On arrival at Loughton - no indication of any disruption, though multiple CSAs hanging around. No announcements. No whiteboard notice. What had happened, and why were passengers not informed? The lack of announcements at Stratford is chronic, but Loughton is usually OK. Surely LU can do better than this?

I was waiting at Mile End for an Epping train having just missed one, after about six minutes Mile End control room made an announcement confirming what cso has posted above. Another twelve or so minutes an out of service train went through followed by a Hainault via Newbury Park which was understanadably pack to the rafters. Epping train followed, which I was able to board. So good information from Mile End staff. All things considered I personally didn’t think the initial delay was that bad.

Leytonstone is usually a shambles in situations like this. However, it is down to Wood Lane control to let the staticn staff know what's happening. Wood Lane seem to have got worse over the years. I remember the times when they used to make bespoke announcements to the platforms.

One under Marble Arch.
Train 104 EB was timetabled to go to Hainault but instead was reversed at Leytonstone on Platform 2, the driver refused to accept the signal over to Plat. 2 because they hadn't been told about the short turn.
Wood Lane are possibly the worst control room on the combine although I'm told that the Piccadilly are worse

This is far from the first time I've heard of this sort of thing happening, but I've still never understood why telling drivers that their destination has changed is not about the first thing done after the decision is made.

Personally speaking, I have never had an issue with any of our Controllers. I have always been polite to them and they have reciprocated. I can understand however why they sometimes can sound a little stressed. We have our fair share of incidents that would test the patience of Job although it seems that any incident such as a signal failure or SPaD at say 8am will screw the service up for almost the rest of the day. Then of course they have to deal with us lot! We appear to be heading off topic

We appear to be heading off topic Yeah, let's stick to the recent Central line incident chaps. We did have a thread not too long ago about different line control rooms and we're happy to resurrect it if it's been locked, or members are welcome to start a new one. I'm sure there's lots of healthy debate to be had - from both sides! Thanks.

My first one in 16 years but I did everything I have been trained to do and am grateful for the support from the relevant teams and my staff.

Similar thing happened to me this evening around 1900 westbound. Got to Bond street and no Ealing trains were showing so I took the first train to East Acton to escape the heat and the first EB train was showing as 18mins away while plenty of West ruislips went past (including once NOA which I thought would be extended to EB but wasn't). Train showed up and was completely packed even at the back. Surprisingly when we got to EB the second train (2 mins behind ours) was even busier. No reported delays but to me it looked like a train or two was cancelled(?).

Just checked trackernet this morning and it looks like I just missed an Ealing train as I got onto the platform at bond street ; there was still seven trains to the next EB service. Although I can see extending the NOA service would have filled in a gap. Meh, service controllers know best I guess XD

What would be frowned upon would be accepting a signal that took you in the wrong direction. As far as the driver was concerned that train was going to Hainault, if he'd accepted the signal to Platform 2 the train could only go up the Epping branch. Knocking out the TBC is one of the two official ways of stopping a train in Auto

.....yep, of course, if the route was mistakenly given and the driver had accepted the signal, then we all know who'd have got the blame with management taking the line of it being a SPAD (Yes, they do do this, I've represented a few of these over the years 😡)
