Well, that explains it. We used to have Sunday to Saturday night turns on Central Line (Hainault and Leytonstone depots only) but after Night Tube started its Sunday to Thursday only so there are no "normal" night duties during Night Tube hours. I wonder what the situation is on the other Night Tube lines?
Night duties only run sun to Thursday on picadilly line Cap plans can be done on Friday and Saturday 8.30 to 1.30 if an I/op is doing all night they shouldn't be Apparently the agreement is if a Night Tube driver requires an IOp in the cab then management ask for a volunteer to work Friday and Saturday nights with the shifts they would have been working covered by the pool. Don't know what they do in none of the IOps volunteer.

As this is no longer just about the Picc, I'm renaming the thread and moving it. Fascinating discussion folks, keep it going!

Would be interested reading the incident report if a spad or something happened an I/op and T/op on same train but working different days ...

It would have been far cheaper and easier for LU to say we will pay volunteers time and a half, (or whatever) on night tube nights and operate 2 rotas in depots, one to include the nights.

Maybe, maybe not.
Remember, LU does not offer voluntary overtime for train operators (something that the Unions are very strong on protecting too), so that would have taken an awful lot of negotiations.
Running a service with volunteers is also generally a bad idea - just look at Southern and other mainline operators where Sundays are 'outside' the normal roster - all it takes is for everyone to refuse to work (as is their prerogative) and the service gets suspended.
Far better would have been LU not selling out an agreement that the Unions themselves insisted upon and actually processed the recruitment as was originally intended.

paying an enhanced rate for certain hours is very different from paying for extra hours. another option could have been a nine day fortnight in order to compensate for the extra weekends and unsocial hours being worked.
Agreed that running a service with volunteers is a bad idea but to have night rotas which people apply to be on, or are filled up with new starters with usual transfer arrangements, as with depot moves, would have been possible.
The companies initial stance that no extra cash would be paid stopped these options from ever being discussed.

I had to look back at my blog for the various offers that were made for Night Tube
First off in March 2015 they offered £250 one off bonus if we agreed to everything by June with another £250 in January 2016 if Night Tube started in September 2015 and there were no problems
In April they offered an additional £250 for drivers on the Night Tube lines with the other lines getting it as and when they started running Night Tube
Just before the first strike in July they switched that to a £500 one off bonus for all staff affected by Night Tube (inc. station staff) and a £2000 bonus for Train Ops
In August we were offered a £500 bonus plus an extra £200 for each Night Tube shift a TOp worked during the "transitional period"
The suggestion was that after the transitional period we would either have part-timers working Night Tube or "fixed links" rosters although none of us believed that would ever happen and that the Night Tube shifts would simply be added into our normal rosters without the £200 per shift.
