Well it is in the Eastbound Platform, which seems to me that it has 'properly' reversed I wanna say was it a timetabled move to test the stock's capabilities when it was new? Although the rear destination blind intrigues me, it the writing seems to small for 'Special'... could it be 'Dave' Perhaps? ;D Sorry i'll stop now... I am still waiting for this to happen in the future, District Back to Uxbridge, where she belongs. lol.

Tubeprune quotes the pre-2000 D stock blinds as being
Special Dagenham East Richmond Upminster Ealing Broadway Tower Hill Wimbledon Barking East Ham Plaistow Whitechapel Aldgate East Mansion House Embankment South Kensington High Street Kensington Earls Court Olympia Parsons Green Putney Bridge Acton Town Ealing Common Shoreditch Surrey Docks (later Quays) New Cross New Cross Gate Special
Though to me it does look like Special (BTW why does LU use Special not SNIS as found elsewhere?)

Well, "SPECIAL NOT IN SERVICE" could not be included in type large enough to be legible. And if the blind showed "SNIS", there would be dozens of American tourists trying to find this station on their Journey Planners.....

Oops - I meant "Sorry not in service" or just "Not In Service / Out of Service"

(BTW why does LU use Special not SNIS as found elsewhere?) Prehaps becaue if it's an enthusiasts train or a football special it would be in service but not to the general public?

(BTW why does LU use Special not SNIS as found elsewhere?) It is one of those things that makes LU interesting and differentiates it from an world where twisted do-gooders try to standardise everything.

Hmm, my 'guess' is the train is 'brand new' that's all I can think of at the moment.

Close Dennis, but it's 1993.
Location: correct
'Destination': Special.
Circumstances: sort of like how Dennis says, but we're getting pedantic here so more wanted

It's not the Metroliner Tour in 1980, is it? I know that went up the Met! (Info from Solidbond's Archive Site!) ;D

Oops - I meant "Sorry not in service" or just "Not In Service / Out of Service" As far as I'm aware, the C stock and 1972 mk2 blinds carry 'Not in Service'.

The signalling, certainly at Earls Court, shows trains not in service as 'S' - hence special?
As for the original question, no idea - before my interest in the District took hold.

Doesn't answer the original question but ...
1967 stock also shows "Sorry-Not In Service" though it is very condensed and when the saloon lights are off the destination blind can not be illuminated independently ! Most irritating !
There really should be "Special" and "Not In Service" on displays !

It wouldn't have been the new bogies - they weren't fitted until the late 90's. There were modifications made to the fleet in the mid 90's, from 1995 onwards, with the addition of the TMS to replace the TEPs, and also other mods. This train has NOT had the mods done, as you can tell by the lack of the new whistle above the cab windows. Don't know what mods were done in 93 though, or what 'overhauls' would have been done necessitating it going to Ruislip.
