As we've been without a quiz for a few days - here's a few questions..............let's hope it last's longer than 10 minutes!! 1) How many Escalators are there at Earls Court station?2) Stations have mirrors/monitors which are used in all sorts of combinations, to show the driver the doors along the full length of trains. How many platforms on the District line use 5 monitors within their set up?3) Where did I take this photo?4) On what date did the current Fulham Broadway booking hall open?5) How many fixed yellow repeater signals are there on the District line?6) Where did I take this photo?7) How many lifts on the district line will take you from street to platform level?8) How many compressors are fitted to the D stock fleet?I couldn't think of any more - I hope they're not too easy, but I fear i'm gonna look later today and find them all answered correctly......

I can't answer any of the questions, but deplore the dreadful design in the sign in question 3. Note how the stick-on amending the penalty has too large type, so that the sticker goes over the top edge of the sign.

Virtually every sign i've seen that has been altered in that manner has an over sized sticker on it. I can only imagine some one felt the change needed to be noticed....

I think you should be very proud of yourself Colin. This is a quiz that seems to have stumped many. Me certainly. And it's lasted more than ten minutes...........

Well I am pleasantly surprised!!
It's been hours and the questions below still haven't even been attempted. The DR drivers should certainly have the answer to number 5!!
So i'm still looking for answers to these:
2) Stations have mirrors/monitors which are used in all sorts of combinations, to show the driver the doors along the full length of trains. How many platforms on the District line use 5 monitors within their set up?
4) On what date did the current Fulham Broadway booking hall open?
5) How many fixed yellow repeater signals are there on the District line?
7) How many lifts on the district line will take you from street to platform level?

I can only think of eleven lifts on the District - four at Hammersmith, two at East Ham, two at Westminster, two at Earl's Court, and one at Richmond. Of that group, the ones at East Ham definitely go between street/platform level, two of the ones at Hammersmith between platform/ticket hall level, which is just about equal to street level, the two at Westminster only go between platform/ticket hall level with stairs to get outside, and the one at Richmond goes between platform/street level.
So I'm going to say 5 for (7).

Four at Hammersmith?
A little clue - your'e about half way there......
And for clarification, i'm counting lifts that will take you from the platform to ticket hall level, as this generally covers the 'street level' element - therefore the ones at Westminster are part of the answer (in any case, dosen't one of the exits lead to the embankment, with no steps?).

I would say 15 lifts in all this is 1 at Upminster, 1 at Barking, 2 at East Ham, 1 at West ham, 2 at Westminster, 2 at Earls court, 2 at Hammersmith, 2 at Fulham Bdwy, 1 at Wimbledon, and 1 at Richmond.

There is more than one fixed yellow repeater on the District, and at least one of those is in your 'area' Pat

Well, I'm ashamed! I can't think of ANY fixed yellow repeaters on the DR! And the four escalators at Earls Court? Two between the Piccadilly line and the intermediate level below the District - where are the other two?

Two between the Piccadilly line and the intermediate level below the District - where are the other two? In the exhibition ticket hall, which is classed as an operational part of the railway. The escalators are fully maintained to the same standard as all others - waste of money if you ask me ;D ;D

The ones that lead up to the Exibition Ticket Hall, its like a time warp there. But surely the Exhibition Hall from the subway isn't part of of the station?

Colin appears to have put the answer to your question at the same time as I put my message up.
Yes those escalators are part of the station.

I can assure you it is considered an operational part of the station. It was 'my station' when I was station staff, and I still keep in good contact with my old colleagues - I kid you not, every part of the exhibition ticket hall is fully maintained. Even the ticket office and barriers.
It also forms part of the station evacuation plan, should the need arise.

5) How many fixed yellow repeater signals are there on the District line?I can't think of any either! We have a few repeaters which are fitted with green lenses but never show a green aspect, but actual fixed repeaters has got me stumped!

Honest - we do have fixed repeaters!! I'm surprised this one's causing problems, it was meant to be one of the easier ones ;D ;D ;D Ok, how can I make it a little easier for you all.........I worked out when doing my website, that if I split the stations in half, the midway point was South Kensington. So..............there are none east of South Kensington ;D ;D Edit: you could be onto something Alan, think about your last post In the meantime, i'm off to bed - i'll see what you come up with in the morning ;D
