HST on 4th rail? Surely only when you fiddle BVE? What's this then? A point for the location, another for the year, and an extra one for describing the circumstances..

This is interesting! The location is just south of Wembley Central where the DC lines diverge underneath the WCML and around towards Stonebridge Park. At a complete guess there used to be a connection from Wembley TMD to the DC lines or the HST has been running over the DC lines all the way from Euston, but where it would reconnect to the WCML confuses me as I can't think of anywhere it can. I really wouldn't like to send a HST down the DC lines now, the track is so bad It'd literally jump off the rails due to the weight and size of the train!

I do remember this, although I can't recall when. As I remember it there was major engineering work somewhere on the southern end of the WCML which severely reduced the number of trains that could be worked into and out of Euston (possibly as few as 2 or 3 trains per hour each way). In order to squeeze one or two more trains in there were a couple of services that were diverted over the DC lines between Euston and Watford Junction. I think they were Holyhead services since they would have been HSTs anyway but I may be mistaken since it was sometime ago and I didn't really pay much attention even then.

ChrisJ has the location, and Harsig is on the right tracks as to the rest. Any more offers before the truth is revealed?
