www.gov.uk/government/publications/southern-rail-network-gibb-reportHas anyone taken a look at this yet? Amongst a whole bunch of rather more important points, it singles out the MK-East Croydon journeys and the Moorgate Gn services for transfer into TfL custodianship. What are peoples thoughts on this and the report in general? I can see why the government has sat on it so long...

Looks like I picked exactly the wrong moment to post with the NY derailment! Nobody had a gander yet? snoggle maybe? Nope. I am reading my through the London Reconnections article on the same subject though. Anyone who has read past LR articles about Southern and the more informed comments under them will know that the whole GTR / Southern debacle has deep and long standing roots. You can't click your fingers or throw money at those issues. They take years of concentrated slog and a rather more co-operative industrial relations climate than has prevailed in recent years. Sure you throw money at the asset issues, as the government has done, but unless you reform how services are run and how effective maintenance and renewals are performed then you'll be back in a mess within a few years. Note I am NOT referring to the staffing arrangements on trains - that's been discussed to death already.
