There is a PA message being broadcast at Ealing Broadway that an empty train has detailed at Ealing Common. No service Turnham Green to Ealing Broadway or a Acton Town to Uxbridge as a result but no other information. The service status on the TfL website is saying the same almost word for word.

At around 21:00 on the 13th of June 2017, the derailment of an "empty train" at Ealing Common resulted in the suspension of Piccadilly line services between Acton Town and Rayners Lane/Uxbridge and District line services between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway. Any indications as to the circumstances of this event?

S Stock entering Depot from Ealing Broadway, 1.5 cars derailed, not a District Line driver.

I assume not a Piccadilly line driver, as they wouldn't have the traction knowledge, so I guess that it could have been a shunter (although they may not be allowed onto the mainline?), an H&C&C driver doing a stock move (which would also be a surprise as that seems quite a way out of their patch), or a test train driver (which would also be a surprise as you'd have thought that there'd be enough district drivers to cover normal duties without having to get them involved?)

You're assuming that it was a normal duty, which we don't know at present. I would expect a test train driver to be in charge of a train that was returning home after a trip to Acton works or Derby.

Very true. I suppose we should probably leave it at that however, as per rincew1nd 's post, until more information comes to light

This was a normal service train entering the depot and a standard operating rule was being implemented as to whom was driving it

I took those lines this evening, nothing seemed "different" so well done for the staff to overcoming the derailment so quickly!

When shunting trains at the north end of Ealing depot you are Flying by the seat of one's pants, if not the driver it will be a shunter driving train. there are photos on facebook.

One of our principles is "just because it's somewhere else on the internet doesn't mean it's ok on here". I think there's enough information on here now that educated members can draw some fairly accurate conclusions. Thread locked.
