We've discussed this several times in the last year. So, guess the location, then explain the daily occurrence this shows

It's a Piccadilly Line shunt move over the District tracks to West Ken to reverse from East - West, the photo shows a 59TS heading back west towards Barons Court over the District road after completing the move. The photo was taken just west of West Ken station, the tracks from the Piccadilly Line raising up from the tunnel portals can be seen in the background.

I'm not sure at all about this one. My first reaction was the Sandite unit, but it could be the former track recording train.

It's a passenger train, judging by the amount of carriages!

Phil, Colin or indeed anyone else, please could you post a link to the past thread discussing this operation.

That move was done every day for many years by a night turn driver, with the first train reversing at West Ken. Picc drivers are no longer road trained for the move.

Chris J was first this time*, followed up by several others, with more detail.
Ask Colin about the previous references: it's his speciality!
*The only small problem with Chris' answer was he described it as a shunt move, whereas it was in fact a regular Timetabled move.

I know Phil hasn't asked this but I have been trying to date the photo. As the train is a 59 and the eastbound siding is still there, but westbound siding gone, the sidings were removed in 1965, I estimate it to be around 1964, am I correct Phil?

Was there a past thread on this then? Edit: there is this one, but it only has two post's in it!! districtdave.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=picc&action=display&thread=1128219453This would have been the first one I could have got!! oh well.......... To add a bit to this, Lille Bridge depot has two access points to the District (being a former District depot many many years ago), at West Kensington and on the Olympia branch. In between being a District depot, and it's current use by Transplant for engineering trains, it was a Piccadilly line depot - so the sight of 'tube size' trains as seen in the pic used to be fairly common. Thanks for the info Colin, you seem to be the fount of all knowledge. BTW I searched for ages looking for a past thread to no avail, well done on finding what you did.

Thanks for the info Colin, you seem to be the fount of all knowledge. I wouldn't go that far - there's plenty I don't know ;D ;D I just seem to have a good long term memory, which helps sniff out those old threads - if only my short term memory was as good........now what duty did I do today?? ;D ;D

When I had my initial training at Ashfield House, 4 years ago now, we all had to go down there and practice crossing the live track at the point just west of where the Picc emerges from underground. We had to cross the eastbound District to the 6 foot and then back again, one at a time. Normally the 6 foot is definitely not a place of safety, but at that point it is about 20 feet wide!
