Hello,
I purchased Microsoft Train simulator (the base product, covering Hisatsu line, Innesbruk to St Anton, Marias Pass, Shinjuku to Hakone and the Settle & Carlisle) in 2007. I tried to install it on my new computer (running Windows 10), and whilst it installed OK, it keeps telling me I need to run it as the administrator, when I am the administrator.
I hsven't yet re-installed the add-ons I've got as I obviously want to get the base product working properly first. Can anyone help/advise please?

While your account may be an Administrator account, for some reason that doesn't always matter.
Try right-clicking on the shortcut and choosing "Run as Administrator" and see if that helps. If it does, you can set the shortcut to always "Run as Administrator" but I can't tell you off-hand how to do that as I can't remember, but it's definitely in Properties somewhere.

It's in the compatibility mode options, but Windows 10... they may have named it something different now or hidden it away somewhere. I have the same program but I stuck with Windows 7.

Have now tried various things, and have made some (progress?), in that my computer is now claiming the program is incompatible with windows 10. Has anyone else tried to run Microsoft Train Simulator on Windows 10 and done so successfully please?

The last time I tried to run MSTS on windows 10, I think I had it running in compatibility mode for XP, and it would load to the main screen, which was covered in all manner of gibberish at which point I gave up trying to run it. Unfortunately, the hard drive which had it on has since succumbed to old age, so I can't test it if works on the latest windows 10 update, but I'd be surprised if it would work. That said, it seems that it can be made to run according to this forum. If all else fails, I think that you could use Open Rails, which runs MSTS content but should work fine with Windows 10.

Yes, now exploring the open rails route. Ive got quite a few CD-ROM based add-ons. Is it worth hanging on to these or are they now also useless and I now need to download everything?

I imagine that you should be able to get the add ons out of the CD-ROMs, although it will probably involve installing them to an empty directory and then copying the files from there to the open rails directory, but I've never touched Open Rails, so don't really know anything about it.
