So, there's a lot unusual about this photo - but what? Many of our LU employees could have been on duty, and indeed have seen, this. We need the event, location, (approx) date, and reason. In other words, What, where, when and why?

95ts/96ts stock pilot at back. IIRC, the cars on the 59/62 on the back, have equipment from the 95/96's. When you move the master controller, you get the sounds just like a 96 makes. Very odd hearing it...

Why is the platform road unused by electric traction?

Not bad so far - most of the answers have been given by one or another.

Why is the platform road unused by electric traction? Russ The Bay Road on the eastbound at Barking is used by electric traction, mainly by Hammersmith & City Line trains, but some times District line trains use it. It could be a weekend when the H & C line was not running due engineering works. Its its been raining, the current rail soon have a rusty look.

Very odd hearing it... I thought it was the other way round, when driven in reverse, ie from the cab of the unpowered new '96, you got the sounds the '59 makes, 'tick, tick, tick. tick'.

The modern stock on the front was unpowered. The cab drove some gubbins in the 62 stock pilot which told it what to do - therefore if you moved the CTBC forward in the 95 stock at the front you'd get the 62's noises up behind you!
There's something about it on squarewheels....
