I noticed that trains stop short of the entire stopping marker board (marked S7) on the eastbound district/H&C platform at Mile End. I watched a few trains and this seemed to be consistent.
I wondered why this is?
Are these boards positioned for when the trains are operating under new the new signalling?

Viewing the chevron board correctly on the left, through the front windscreen, would cause the train to stop short of the actual board: "SS" is shown for demonstration, they could be S7 S8 SR or SS .

S7 and S8 are obvious enough, but what's SS and SR?
S Stop (all S trains)? S Reverse (for trains reversing)?

Some stopping marks are being changed once the upgrade has happened and the CCTV monitors / mirrors have been removed.
