I was driving though Chesham yesterday, when I saw a S8 with 'Watford' displayed on the side display. I believe there is such a thing as a Chesham to Watford service which operates in the morning, but apart from that I thought that Chesham trains only went back towards Harrow.
Was I just seeing things? Not sure on the exact time, but this was around mid day.

I believe there are engineering works this weekend, with trains running from Chesham / Amersham to Northwood via Watford.

Correct. With the Harrow shut down all Met trains are running to Amersham/Chesham via Watford from Northwood.
A through PIS code is not available, so trains are set up firstly to Watford and then to Amersham or Chesham via the North Curve.

Were Amersham trains secretly running a Harrow fast service on Good Friday? The journey planner suggested the quickest route from Northwood to Amersham was a change at Moor Park rather than going via Watford.
Today it is not the case!
It is a real pity the points at Northwood are not more reliable or both Watford and Amersham/Chesham services could reverse forming the 8tph standard service. Using the mainline shunt would really help out!

It was advertised on the Met specific engineering poster.

Surprised to see a couple of class 66 locos on the NB Met Fast at Northwick Park. I thought that the contract with GBRf had finished last year.

May be a new contract was signed as LUL are short of powerful locomotives for engineers trains on big jobs such as is going on over a four day track work blockade at Harrow-on-the-Hill.

Half-hourly Amersham - Northwood via Watford. Half-hourly Chesham - Northwood via Watford. From approx. 12.30, half-hourly Amersham - Harrow platform 2, via fast lines. From approx. 12.30, half-hourly Marylebone - Aylesbury, via fast lines (before 12.30, hourly Amersham-Aylesbury)
