The Central line has had a pretty bad day today, apparently there was a signal failure at Epping and Loughton and two broken down trains, one at Liverpool Street and the other at Queensway.
Anyone have any more details as to what specifically happened?

Epping - points failing to normalise. Two trains wrong-roaded back to Theydon Bois.
Loughton - points failing to normalise. One train delayed in section.
Liverpool Street - rolling stock defect. Initially occurred at Stratford, re-occurred at Liverpool Street. Train was further delayed with the move into the siding being somewhat protracted.
Queensway - Lost forward movement on approach. Not rectified by signal release, nor any other mode. Limited movement obtained after train operator actions.

What was really annoying at about 1300 was the total lack of announcement, and the confusion of any staff, about what was going on. A lot of mystified people were hanging around at Leytonstone. Also the TRT was in a queue of Hainault divertees, labelled "special", which mystified them even more. Loughton was fairly gummed up with trains, and it seemed a bit difficult to get trains out of the 3 platform roads. With the cancellation of route 167 north of Loughton, and the 418 being only hourly, there were plenty of disgruntled passengers about, too.

Said TRT stabled in the centre road at Leytonstone, and duly fazed the punters, who thought it might me the Epping shuttle service. Few if any noticed it was a non-standard train (one part looked like 1938 stock - is that right)!

TRT = Track Recording Train (now added to our list of standard abbreviations) For info scroll to the bottom of this page on the excellent "SquareWheels" site (beware, you can easily lose a whole evening reading about the Underground on there!) or there is a precĂs and lovely picture of the train on the LURS (London Underground Railway Society) site here.

And yes, I'll be adding that to the list of acronyms later this evening......

Is it still 1-1?

Said TRT (one part looked like 1938 stock - is that right)! None of it is 1938 stock, it's two 1960 cars with a 73 in between. Both types have the longer windows in the passenger areas - up to and including 1959/62 stock had much smaller ones

Yes, NF, I can see that. The window apertures look odd, of course, as some have been blanked off. Whistlekiller, don't think I'm wholly GLU, just LU-curious!
