At Stanmore, presumably. There seems to be a rather large unattended package on the platform!

Hadn't spotted the laundry basket That's not the error though! Its not a laundry basket, it is a Ticket Hamper. All used tickets collected at stations were put in bags and sent to the ticket sorting office in the wicker hampers, with the guard of a train.

How did that system work then? And what did the ticket sorting office do with them? I assume this was some way of doing a passenger flow check before computers? ?

When a line was opo, a member of staff on ticket hamper duties travelled on the train to collect the ticket bags.
The ticket sorting office did all the work of passenger flow, this was before the UTS gates were put in.
Any way back on track, this picture is a 1983 Tube Stock at Stanmore in the days when the Jubilee line went to Charing Cross.
The only thing unusual is the set number 404, but this could be a special service in operation.

I think that the location is Stanmore because of the big house in the back, but for me what is wrong is the sidings in the right side of the picture as as far as I know there are no sidings in Stanmore.

4xx, as DWS says, is reserved for empty stock and special trains.

Phil - Before any line went One Man the guards were used to collect the post from stations and post out at critical destinations EG District at St James's, when the District went One Man in 1985 there used to be Postmen ( light duties staff ) that travelled in the front car behind the driver and do the same thing as the guards used to before OPO. I remember the baskets myself because when leaving the cab the bloody basket was always behind the J door
