Hi
Is an Oystercard which is connected to an online account automatically fully registered? I thought so but reading the information on the TFL website it says, "If you want to buy Travelcards and Bus & Tram Passes that are valid for longer than a month on your Oystercard, you need to fill out a form to register it" It looks like you cannot 'register' online so this is presumably an extra thing to just having an Oystercard on an online account? Or is this information on the website perhaps out of date now that the ticket offices have closed?
What advantage is there to fully register the Oystercard (apart from the ability to buy longer period travelcards) as by linking it to an online account the card is already protected against loss and theft?
Thanks for any comment and advice here!

I'm basically asking here if there is still a concept of 'full registration' of an oyster card which can only be done at a station.

There is, but you'll be hard pressed to find (m)any staff who know how to do it, unless they're ex-SAMFs (Station Assistant Multifunctional, aka the former ticket office grade).
A partial registration will still be completed if you're adding any kind of railcard discount, or replacing a failed card that was previously registered.
Monthly and weekly tickets on Oyster do not require registration. I am not sure about annuals as these are no longer dealt with at stations.

That interesting. I thought the information on the TFL website hinted at this. So having an oystercard associated with an online account doesn't count as partial registration? What are the advantages of full registration? If you want the detailed difference between "registered" and "protected" Oyster Cards then look at page 16 of the following pdf file. content.tfl.gov.uk/tfl-conditions-of-carriage.pdfIn essence registration is required if there is any sort of discount concession, backed by a photocard, set on the Oyster Card. The need to register also applies if you wish to purchase a season ticket valid for longer than 1 month so that covers all "odd period" combinations and Annuals. The document says where you can register a card having completed the form. If your Oyster Card is linked to an Oyster online account then it counts as "protected" - i.e. TfL have the requisite personal information to allow you to contact them to stop / blacklist the Oyster Card in the event of you reporting it as lost or stolen. Any value on the card remaining on the card at the time of notification should then be available for refund / transfer to a new card.

I filled out a record card once for an Oyster card as you needed to do this for monthly tickets at the time.
Somebody entered the wrong information on the system which then told me the card wasn't mine.

Thanks for the information. Is the oyster card registration form available online anywhere? It seems odd that with the closure of the tickets offices that such a form can't be filled out and submitted online! But is full registration required now before an 'annual' or 'odd period' travelcard is purchased? My friend recently purchased an oyster card from a newsagents and then added it to his online account and there is the option online of purchasing an annual season ticket even though the new oyster card is not 'registered'. The website also says that you can buy longer period travelcards without registering as long as you have a contactless and Oyster account. So it seems that registration is really only for those who don't have access to the internet.

Yes that could be the only reason for registering now. I asked at Charing Cross Underground station and the station staff on the gates said that there was no form for registering at the station and that 'it is all done online now' The website also says that you can buy longer period travelcards without registering as long as you have a contactless and Oyster account.
