Goodness me, I haven't used that station since Saturday. It's too easy for me to even bother to answer.

Been there, done that. I too will allow someone else to try to guess this - it can be deceptive though

Is this Rayners Lane? I remember seeing a picture like this many, many years ago and it seems familiar.

Wasn't it spelt Halte at one point or am I thinking of somewhere else? Love the pics Phil. Lots of history for me to peruse too.

Wasn't it spelt Halte at one point or am I thinking of somewhere else? No, not to my knowledge anyway. Perhaps in another language maybe.

AFAIK yes - there's something about it on the Met video IIRC.

Wasn't it spelt Halte at one point or am I thinking of somewhere else? Can't remember what the Metropolitan did in those days, but 'Halte' was an in vogue spelling at the beginning of the 20th century, perhaps to distinguish it from the abbreviated and more modern form, which in those days could have been perceived in the verb form of 'halt'. Trains halted only if passengers (getting off, or waiting on the platform) issued a command. The Great Western used the 'Halte' form for many years, so it is not unlikely the Metropolitan followed suit, but whether the Metropolitan adopted the same operating philosophy I know not. Russ

The (removed) caption from the photo certainly spelled Halte with an e at the end

Well, you can't say this forum is not informative. I can't find halte via google, and even my (once) trusty London Transport Railways list of opening, closing & renaming dates of lines & stations calls it Ickenham Halt.

I knew it was somewhere around there. I had a book years ago all about the Metropolitan Railway, it contained many many photos like the one Phil has posted and was very good. Unfortunately I haven't seen it for years and cannot remember what it was called.................
