Someone mentioned that the most difficult 'Where's This' quiz would be a train in a tube tunnel. Well this picture is in a tunnel (sub-surface rather than tube) but there are no trains present. There is however something unusual going on which may allow someone to identify the location.

I've got no concrete reason why, but something tells me it's between Baker Street and Finchley Road. Can't get closer (probably nowhere near).

Correct but since you're so clever perhaps you'd care to attempt to explain why the permanent way is floating in mid air.

Correct but since you're so clever perhaps you'd care to attempt to explain why the permanent way is floating in mid air. The old Aldgate East station was rebuilt 200ft eastwards in 1938, this was so that 8 car trains could fit on the triangle junctions of the Met, Circle & District Lines. The track had to be lowered at the new Aldgate East station, as the ticket hall was under the road suface. You can still see the hooks in the roof of the station, the track was lifted by ropes and chains. The work was carried out in stages using weekend changeovers, the new layout was brought into use in November 1938.

The design of the ticket hall slab is unusal in that it is suspended by hangers over the track.
