Looking across at the seats opposite, I noticed that those under a 'priority seating' sign had a panel stitched into the seat back illustrating some icons relating to those who should be given priority. It looks as if they have been stitched into existing fabric.
I thought it was a nice touch, but I've never registered them before (I'm usually reading or looking out of the window), and wondered how long they had been there.

As far as I know, they're been there on the Central since the new moquette was installed. They've certainly been around for a while anyway

There were a number of D Stocks that had priority logos in the moquette which I thought were reasonably well done. Dstock7080 has photos of some of them on his Flickr. 123456

Those I do remember, but they were much less subtle. (Just as well with unobservant people such as myself at large on the underground.)

I remember downloading CCTV footage from each of those D78 cars. Glad I wasn't the person who had to watch hours and hours of it to work out which if any pattern was best at encouraging people not to use or to be prompt in giving up the priority seats to those most in need.

Are they stitched on, I thought they were part of the moquette pattern (ie stitched in)?

Not immediately obvious but the coverings on the TfL Rail trains are different in the seats designated for mobility impaired persons.
