What is the oldest complete set or simply individual cars of old stock still in use on the Underground? Without delving into my library, I'd say off the top of my head a shunter or ballast wagon at one of the depots or Acton?

What is the oldest complete set or simply individual cars of old stock still in use on the Underground? If my memory serves me right, the oldest passenger stock in regular service will be a handful of 67 Tube Stock cars that work with 72TS on the Bakerloo... I suspect a few members here will be able to identify the numbers of these 67TS cars and the 72 TS they operate with.
There are a few electric battery locos, the oldest of which are Metro Cammell's from 1964
Otherwise the LT Museum's 4-car 38TS unit must be amongst the oldest, alongside occasionally used Sarah Siddons (1923 electric loco), steam loco No. 1 dating back to 1896 and carriage 353 (1892)
Any more for any more

Which I believe include a 1938 stock trailer It's a 73TS trailer on the TRT. The 38TS trailer featured in the 60TS Shuttle units Hainault/Woodford and Epping/Ongar after the Standard stock trailers previouslty used were scrapped. Picture from bowroaduk's Flickr:

a shunter at one of the depots or Acton? Electric or diesel? LU doesn't have any locos built solely for shunting, but marshalling of engineer's trains at Ruislip can be performed by either battery locomotives (as mentioned upthread the oldest are 1964 vintage) or Schöma diesels which date from the 1990s. Also occasionally seen at Ruislip or Neasden Depots (or somewhere in between) are ex-British Rail Class 20 diesel locos, some of which date from the late 1950s. These are used for delivery or despatch of S Stock units returning to/from their manufacturer or the Old Dalby test facility.

Not quite so, all the 67 stock was withdrawn at the time of the Victoria Line fleet replacement. There are, however, 19 cars of 1972Mk1 stock still running on the Bakerloo Line. I'd suggest these are the oldest cars running in passenger service. As regards non-passenger stock, there's a 1959 stock car running in one of the Central Line's sandite trains, which may be a contender.

The Bakerloo will hold the record for the oldest vintage trains in regular passenger service now, the 1972 cars will see their 50th birthday easily, outlasting the 1938 tube cars, which ran from 1938 until 1988 in normal passenger service.

The Bakerloo probably holds that record in London, but 1938 stock still works on the Isle of Wight "Island Line". Which answers the thread title as well, although not the more specific question in the first post (the Island Line can't really be considered as being on the Underground...).

Apologies if it reads like a GCE maths question
