Whilst walking through Charing Cross Underground I saw a very odd sight of what looked like staff holding something like a giant wheel in one of the cross passages and wondered what that was about.
Secondly the Northern Line access to Charing Cross Mainline is closed and I got diverted via a long diversion to the Bakerloo entrance to Trafalgar Square. Can someone tell me what is going on here? There was not really much info at the station.

I assume the second is to do with this: www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2016/08/30/charing-cross-tube-stations-ticket-hall-to-close-next-month/There was a thread here about it but I can't find it at the moment.

The old ticket office area is being removed to be replaced by new shops. The lighting is being replaced and the area generally updated.
The subways around the station are Council owned but may have passed to TfL control.
